In Hollywood, it is common for stars to resort to steroids to buff up due to time constraints. However, when the choice was given to Henry Cavill, not only did he not let a needle touch him, citing his desire to "push his body to its natural limits" but also requested the digital touch-ups to be minimal when the movie was in post-production. The details were in USA Today’s Superman training regimen story during his work on the Man of Steel in 2013.

Reportedly, his trainer, Mark Twight had popped the question about steroids and HGH during their first meeting. Although Cavill rejected it, Twight added that if he had not, Twight would be the one doing the rejection and training him. As per Twight, Cavill wanted to play Superman without shortcuts, trying to keep himself as clean as the character. Thus, it seems Cavill himself chose the longer road over quick fixes to attain the reputation for his true grit.

Henry Cavill’s superheroic transformation in Man of Steel is widely discussed, but before that, he had to sculpt eight-pack abs for Immortals in 2011. For this role, Cavill needed to shed body fat and maintain a lean physique throughout filming. In an interview with IMDb, he revealed that the ultimate struggle was maintaining 6% body fat while shooting for 14 hours a day.

"It’s a real challenge to keep yourself professional and not lose your temper while juggling all the training," Cavill said. Although his Superman training was equally demanding, requiring him to undergo three stages of workouts to achieve that physique, Cavill has consistently demonstrated one thing through all his roles: shortcuts are not an option for Superman, even when one has to shed the cape of super from the man.
