Synonymous with Superman in pop culture, the British actor has showcased his rugged physique as well as unabated acting prowess in countless productions so far. Bearing such a studded review, however, has not landed him any wins either from the Academy or back home, at BAFTA.

Despite a key distinction between the two coveted awards, the actor once laid bare his equivalent respect for both, including why the British one held a special place in him.

Henry Cavill would love a BAFTA even more than an Oscar

Every year, the British Academy of Film and Television Arts holds its English equivalent of the Oscars. Either of the two awards also fulfill the same purpose: to recognize the laurels in acting and filmmaking. However, the latter goes the extra mile to shine the spotlight on British works of art and artists with separate categories. Highlighting that very aspect, Henry Cavill, while speaking to BAFTA in February 2015, stated that winning one “would mean so much more to me than something like an Oscar”.

Soon clarifying that while winning an Oscar would be “incredible”, he opened up that “BAFTA is being recognized by my countrymen and women, so I would love that”. The British Academy’s awards felt to him like “home soil”, and thus, the personal connection. Hailing from Jersey in the UK, Cavill’s early days had him act as extras in movies shot in the UK, with one notable incident involving Russel Crowe.

In terms of wins, Henry Cavill has yet to win either an Oscar or a BAFTA and his latest flick might just have pushed that dream further away.

Matthew Vaughn’s Argylle fails to mark actor’s big screen return

Henry Cavill last evoked audience euphoria when he appeared for an extremely brief post-credits cameo in 2021’s Black Adam. Thereafter, post a Superman as well as The Witcher exit, the 40-year-old sealed his role as the titular agent for Matthew Vaughn’s spy flick, Argylle.
