Long before Zack Snyder established Henry Cavill as arguably one of the best yet most divisive on-screen Superman, things were different for the Man of Steel actor. Cavill, who had started his acting career back in 2001’s Laguna, had wrapped up several roles in historical dramas like The Tudors and stood poised for the red cape. However, the release of his movie saw an overwhelming fan following come his way while critics sauntered away from praise. The third act of the movie took place amid massive destruction of the on-screen surroundings. Yet, the actor upholds his character in good faith.

Adapting to one of the most popular comic book characters, the actor once spoke his mind on his analysis of the friendly Kryptonian.

At 27 years old, the actor did his homework before taking on the role of Superman. Back in May 2013, Henry Cavill, in talks with Interview Magazine, spoke at length about how Superman managed to uphold his moral compass. A being capable of bringing entire humanity to its knees, what held him back? Turns out, the answer is his parents – Jonathan and Martha Kent. Cavill said, “So although he might want to react to something, he still knows that going on a killing spree is the wrong thing to do.”

The revelation now holds importance as Man of Steel’s sequence between Superman and Zod nearly leveled the city of Metropolis. Yet, it appears that the cause of it was not Clark Kent’s botched ethics or raging revenge. As members of the film have previously pointed out, Metropolis was collateral damage. To get his point across, the actor also opined that Superman was “subject to the emotional frailties of being human”. Regardless of the movie debate, Cavill’s analysis and grip on the character once again highlighted his ability to essay any role flawlessly.

Helming the two-part space opera, Rebel Moon, Zack Snyder, now stands as a tall voice within Netflix. A recent report highlighted both the director’s as well as the streamer’s willingness to continue with the original DCEU. Now that James Gunn and Peter Safran are moving ahead with an entirely new slate of characters and with the multiverse wide open, the original characters have a shot at revival. However, Henry Cavill may not be able to return as Superman.

The 40-year-old actor is marking his theatrical appearance alongside Dua Lipa in Argylle in early 2024. The spy thriller will potentially have him lead further installments of a mega-franchise. Meanwhile, the actor is also moving ahead with Warhammer 40K live-action, a project on Highlander as well as another thriller, The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare. Thus, it remains to be seen if fate once again spoils Henry Cavill’s return as Superman.
