Despite Fetching 3/4th Of The Original Marvel Characters, ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’s Best Cameo Could Not Become a Reality

To say that Ryan Reynolds burned the midnight oil so that Deadpool & Wolverine could give to the audience what was expected of it would be an understatement given the quality of the movie and the quantity of cameos that came with it. Not only did he make sure to give his best as a performer at the hands of Shawn Levy, but his creative genius was oozing through every frame of the movie. Despite the glory of it all, there was one cameo whose absence rang loud in the movie.

For a movie that could even make Wrexham AFC player Paul Mullin's cameo relevant in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, fans were surprised that an iconic comic character did not greet them on screen.

Given the blockbuster success of the movie and how it has become the first R-rated movie in two decades to clock in such numbers, it is lethal to institute that Deadpool & Wolverine has not changed the course of the tide. However, original comic fans would have popped a vein if they saw the return of Nicolas Cage as Ghost Rider. Ryan Reynolds, being the little genius that he is, knew of the impact it could have and admitted in an interview with Collider that he did reach out to Cage, but ultimately things did not work out.

The last time Nicolas Cage was seen as Ghost Rider was in the 2011 movie, Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance. This was only the second movie that the actor had appeared in to reprise the comic book role, with the first having come out in 2007. Despite the frequency, Cage's portrayal of Ghost Rider is a cherished one and would have been a perfectly buttery cameo in Deadpool & Wolverine. Fortunately, Jennifer Garner made up for the absence.

Apart from the entourage of star power that the movie boasted off, set in silence yet strength, was the cameo of Jennifer Garner as Elektra.

Ryan Reynolds fetched almost everyone that could elevate the already dynamic plot of Deadpool & Wolverine into the movie, including his kids. However, nothing could come close to the cultural impact that Jennifer Garner's cameo has had. The actress was last seen in the role all the way back in 2005, and seeing her back in the costume was on nobody's 2024 bingo card.

Much like every other celebrity that has unleashed a shower of praises on Ryan Reynolds, Hugh Jackman, and Shawn Levy, Garner too was overwhelmed with love for the movie and the actors involved. Not to mention, her transformation from being fit to Marvel fit has once again made her the epicenter of pop culture. Therefore, while there is no doubt that Nicolas Cage's cameo would have been good for Deadpool & Wolverine, Garner was just that and much more.
