Joining the likes of When Harry Met Sally and Eat, Pray, Love, the Sydney Sweeney and Glen Powell starrer Anyone But You cemented itself as one of the best romantic comedies. Tasked with bringing about a modern adaptation of one of William Shakespeare’s plays, Much Ado About Nothing, the December 2023 flick saw a staggered release across many countries and has so far managed to eke out a brilliant box office run.

In the face of such a scenario, the lead actress hinted at any potential sequel to her flick and the many things she would like to ensure before embarking on it.

The winter romantic heart-tugger pulled on many of its audiences’ fancy and likeness with its picturesque Australian backdrops and a riveting story at the core. As of March 2024, the movie crossed past $212 million at the global box office against a budget of just $25 million, making it one of the most profitable movies of the year. Yet, for a potential sequel to Anyone But You, Sydney Sweeney, in talks with GQ magazine, wanted to ensure giving the “audience what they want”.

Playing Bea in the movie, the actress also served as one of its producers. “We’ve been tossing around a bunch of different ideas,” opened up Sweney while maintaining that a follow-up movie should serve justice to the original. Furthermore, she also put forth that for such a project to be enticing enough for her to return, it should be “new and exciting”. In a hallmark movie for the genre, Anyone But You served many highs, including going on to become the highest-grossing Shakespeare live-action adaptation.

On March 22, 2024, Sydney Sweeney will land in theaters alongside the horror-thriller Immaculate. The project that will mark her third collaboration with director Michael Mohan after Everything Sucks! and The Voyeurs, carries some major promises. Featuring her as Cecilia, an American nun in an Italian convent, the movie lies adorned with immaculate jump scares.

Mohan recently teased that Sydney Sweeney will have the audience leaving theaters with an “extreme reaction” as Immaculate stands as his “boldest film”. Furthermore, with talks of blood-laden scenes and a “f*cking extreme” ending, the movie stands as one major anticipated one due to land in a few days.
