The long-awaited day that Marvel fans have been dreaming about has finally arrived. Deadpool’s third installment, aka Deadpool & Wolverine, is about to make its grand debut in theaters in just a few hours. However, it seems that the audience has already declared their judgment on the anticipated release, even before watching it. They have given Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman’s movie a golden ticket with glowing pre-release ratings that might very well turn Hollywood's predictions upside down.
This flood of love is about to make Deadpool & Wolverine the highest-grossing R-rated movie in its first weekend, breaking the records set by the first two Deadpool movies.

Deadpool & Wolverine was expected to smash through the billion-dollar mark in 2024. However, many experts argued that it could do a business of approximately $800 million, similar to the previous installments. Now, seeing the roaring audience ratings on Rotten Tomatoes, the wind has taken a sharp turn. The Shawn Levy-directed movie has a 97% audience rating and is 81% fresh, improving its odds of becoming the highest-grossing R-rated movie this weekend with over $170M at the domestic box office.
The first and second installments of Deadpool had grossed $132 million and $125.5 million, respectively, on their first weekends. According to Deadline, if Deadpool & Wolverine lands in the $170M range domestically, it could translate to a global opening of about $360M. To date, only 17 movies have debuted with a domestic haul of over $170M, and they were all PG-13. Thus, for an R-rated film to hit that milestone would be a huge deal. However, there are always two sides to every coin.
Along with the positive reviews, there is also criticism that could pose an obstacle to Deadpool & Wolverine's billion-dollar dream.

It is no secret that Deadpool & Wolverine would be filled with fourth-wall-breaking jokes, innuendos, and unexpected cameo appearances. However, the movie's action sequences and the visuals have received some backlash. As per the Executive Editor at Inverse, Jake Kleinman, Shawn Levy has leaned heavily on CGI, making the movie look more like a video game than a live-action flick
"The movie is a visual dud," wrote Kleinman in his review. The film's color scheme and aesthetic were also called out, hinting that it might not be the best Deadpool movie after all. Still, with just a few hours to go before release, the final verdict will drop on day one itself, showing whether Deadpool & Wolverine breaks its previous record and becomes the highest-grossing R-rated movie or not.
