With the anticipated arrival of Deadpool & Wolverine at the theater this July, the long wait is finally reaching its conclusion. However, for devoted comic fans eagerly anticipating a third installment of the beloved Deadpool film series, this may not mark the end of the journey. Particularly, with the Disney-Fox merger, the film has already undergone an initial shift and has still tugged in several brooches of hope and aspiration about what this narrative could bring about. Nonetheless, according to Marvel's top executive, the current storyline does not align with Ryan Reynolds' original vision for Deadpool & Wolverine.

Reynolds, renowned for his creative prowess, had initially envisioned a different path for the project, which unfortunately never materialized.

During a recent discussion with Empire Magazine for their exclusive Deadpool & Wolverine feature, Ryan Reynolds reminisced about his initial pitch to Marvel head honcho Kevin Feige for the Deadpool & Wolverine project. According to Reynolds, his original concept for the film's storyline, which was rejected, was a Rashomon-style narrative focusing on Deadpool and Wolverine, told from three distinct perspectives. Reynolds described his vision as aiming to create a grand film on an intimate scale.

Feige, however, interjected to clarify that he hesitated to greenlight Reynolds' concept because he was unsure how to integrate Deadpool into it seamlessly. While Feige had plans to introduce mutants and the X-Men into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, he felt the need to consider broader factors beyond mere box office success. Nevertheless, Feige acknowledged Reynolds and his creativity by revealing that the actor had pitched approximately "25 ideas" or variations thereof.

Not Just an Action Extravaganza ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ Is Much More for Ryan Reynolds

Even though Feige found it difficult to highlight Deadpool in the initial plotline suggested by Reynolds, with the current narrative in place, the worst fears are expected to be overcome. Particularly because this storyline aims to deliver a never-seen-before Logan, the team-up between the two is anticipated to hit the chord.

During his conversation with the Empire, Hugh Jackman proposed a novel approach to portraying Logan in the forthcoming Deadpool & Wolverine film. The idea struck him during a lengthy drive, prompting him to continue for an extra hour. Jackman, in turn, reached out to Ryan Reynolds, finding it challenging to contain his excitement about his ideas. However, like the Deadpool idea, Kevin Feige was not too keen on Wolverine's return either.

Still, with his debut in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, there is an opportunity to reimagine Logan within a fresh X-Men franchise. Jackman admitted that Reynolds and Shawn Levy have committed to ensuring that Wolverine's depiction in the upcoming movie will be uniquely special, setting it apart from previous iterations. Therefore, while Reynolds' original concept may not come to fruition on screen, a new iteration of Wolverine will, and both Deadpool and Wolverine appear enthusiastic about the prospect.
