'Deadpool & Wolverine' Eyes Barbenheimer Like Success, to Grasp $500 Million in First Week
Last year, the pop culture estate was dominated by the dichotomy of two movies that went on to break box office records across the globe. On one hand, there was the wacky postmodern comedy, Barbie, which led to pink outfits galore at theaters. On the other, there was the cerebral brooding atomic bomb creation story Oppenheimer. The marriage of the two movies, Barbenheimer, which was initially a meme, soon became a real-world sensation. Now Deadpool & Wolverine is expected to pull off a similar phenomenon.
The third Deadpool movie is about to singlehandedly replicate the billion-dollar success story of Barbenheimer in just a few days.

Last year, Barbie and Oppenheimer fans were caught in a tug-of-war over who would break into the billion-dollar club. While Barbie managed to do so, Oppenheimer fell short by a few tens of millions, thanks to its R-rating. Now, even though Deadpool & Wolverine fall under the R-rated banner as well, the movie is still anticipated to pass $1 billion worldwide by next week. This prediction is based on the Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman starrer's first-week worldwide gross, which will pass $500M today.
The last two Deadpool installments had grossed over $800 million. But they were standalone Deadpool films. Considering that this time fans have two main characters, franchise crossover, multiverse madness, and the electrifying chemistry between the leads, it would not be surprising if Deadpool & Wolverine eclipsed its predecessors. That said, not everything is sunshine and rainbows with the film.
As days roll by, the number of critics is growing as well, in addition to those who have been all praise for Deadpool & Wolverine.

After the wild hype the makers generated for Deadpool & Wolverine, it was clear that the movie would either be a hit with fans or a total miss, no in-between. Those who walked into the theaters looking for laughs, enjoying the meta-commentary, jokes, and banter between the leads, certainly had their expectations met. However, those who hoped for deep characterization, a discernible purpose, storytelling, or plot progression found their hopes dashed by a CGI-heavy, cameo-packed spectacle.
Essentially, Deadpool & Wolverine is a funeral service for 20th Century Fox’s Marvel movies. However, how the MCU will take this narrative forward and how Deadpool will ever be integrated into the Avengers, something he would clearly trade everything for, is yet to be seen. Nonetheless, despite the small share of negativity, the film certainly did a bang-up job pulling audiences into theaters.
