Hunter Schafer made her acting debut as Jules Vaughn, a vibrant transgender character, in the HBO hit Euphoria. She became one of the show's breakout stars, of course, alongside the sensational Sydney Sweeney. As fans continue to wait for the third season of the popular teen drama, which, as per reports, is not going to remain a teen-drama anymore, Schafer has ventured into horror with her latest film Cuckoo, starring alongside Dan Stevens.

Just days after Cuckoo’s debut on screens, Dan Stevens reflected on his co-star Hunter Schafer’s past show, Euphoria, and how it was far from euphoric.

Euphoria never shied away from delving into dark and unsettling subjects, which has also given the show its divisive edge. Despite its popularity, some actors have opened up about the trauma certain scenes have caused them. Dan Stevens, in his recent interview with Vanity Fair, talked about Hunter Schafer’s “not a terribly pleasant” experience working on Euphoria. However, he appreciated that Schafer has since learned that “not every job needs to be like Euphoria”.

Stevens explained that actors can shoot “incredibly f-cked-up, difficult scenes” and still be friends once the shoot wraps. “Nobody needs to have months of therapy afterwards,” added the 41-year-old. From Sydney Sweeney to Storm Reid, many cast members have stepped forward to share their tough experiences filming some of the show’s disturbing scenes and how it took a toll on them. However, Schafer was fortunate enough to find her healing through the show.

Hunter Schafer received a special credit episode on Euphoria that helped her navigate a dark period in her life.

Before the second season of Euphoria hit the screens, HBO dropped two special episodes. One zeroed in on Zendaya's character Rue, while the other focused on Hunter Schafer’s Jules. Beyond her acting role, Schafer also had her hands in as a co-writer and co-executive producer for the special. In an interview with i-D, Schafer revealed that the summer of 2020 was a rough for her, as she was “coming out of the worst depression” of her life.

During that dark stretch, the special episode became a “lifeline” for Schafer. While Schafer compared her time on season one to being part of an extremely intense acting course, she told i-D that she has since grown more at ease in her role. With season 3 now gearing up for production, fans will once again get to see Hunter Schafer stepping back into her iconic character.
