Could Matt Damon and Jimmy Kimmel’s Prank War Take Over the 2024 Emmy Awards?
For most celebrities, the Emmys have been the perfect time to get glammed up and strut their stuff. However, that has not been the case for Jimmy Kimmel and Matt Damon. While it might just be for giggles, the comedian and the actor have continued a prank war that began way back in 2005. Although nearly two decades have passed since then, they have managed to make it a kind of tradition.
With the pranks and jokes still being made just last year, people all over the world cannot help but ask: Will it happen once again?

Over the years, Jimmy Kimmel and Matt Damon’s playful rivalry has ended up becoming a running gag. While it may have all begun on the late-night talk show, Jimmy Kimmel Live!, it went on to flow over to various award ceremonies. From the Emmys to the Oscars, the stars have constantly hilariously shaded each other. Before seeing if fans could expect to see them do it all once again at tomorrow’s awards ceremony, let us first check out their fake feud.
How Jimmy Kimmel and Matt Damon’s “feud” began
Back in 2005, Jimmy Kimmel was on the third season of his talk show. While the show was already doing rather well, he ended up catching the world’s attention by ending one of his episodes by saying, “Apologies to Matt Damon, but we ran out of time.” Although the two had not even been introduced to each other back then, it still ended up becoming a running joke.
The comedian continued to make the same joke for the rest of the season as it had cracked everyone up. However, just a year later, he ended up inviting Damon to his show. That is when they took the whole fake feud to a whole new level. Right after Kimmel introduced the actor, he cut him off mid-sentence to end the episode for the night. It ended with the 53-year-old jokingly cursing at the host and walking off the stage.
Since then, the Good Will Hunting star and Kimmel have even resolved their issues on the show. However, that did not stop them from taking it to the Emmys stage.
Jimmy Kimmel and Matt Damon’s Emmy and other award show moments
In 2016, Jimmy Kimmel and Matt Damon took their so-called feud to a much bigger platform. It was the Emmy Awards. While the late-night host had kept the actor out of his opening monologue for the night, it was the Jason Bourne actor who ended up throwing the first punch. That night, the 56-year-old’s show had been nominated for an award. Unfortunately, he ended up losing. That is when Damon saw his chance and took it. Shortly after the comedian ended up losing, his nemesis made his way onto the stage to rub salt in the wound.
While their interaction was hilarious and was just a joke, Kimmel ended up holding a grudge. So much so that he ended up starting his 2017 Oscar gig with the hopes that the actor would lose. While his prayers ended up being answered, that was not enough for the host. Apart from throwing out many zingers that memorable night, the comedian also ended up defacing the actor’s seat marker with a mustache and even colored his teeth black.
With Kimmel reigniting the feud at last year’s Oscars with a few low blows at Damon, fans cannot help but hope that they end up making a comeback this year as well.

Last year, Jimmy Kimmel hosted the Oscar awards and brought his feud with Matt Damon back into the spotlight. However, this year, neither of the stars is set to host or present any awards at the esteemed award show. While it might be hard for them to continue their prank war without being on stage, there is still a possibility that they will find a way. After all, they have managed to do just that repeatedly.
With only hours left to go for the Emmy Awards to go live, fans are wondering which actors and movies will end up being crowned the winner. However, with Pedro Pascal’s Last of Us already dominating the awards show, the others might end up falling just a little bit behind.
