Colman Domingo Revels in Fame and Success, Revealing He Loves the Hollywood “attention”

Hollywood always dazzles with its signature glitz and glamor, but stepping into the spotlight is never a guaranteed ticket to success. Of course, some stars enjoy the seamless rise, but others do not get lucked out that way. Then there are the late bloomers, who planted their roots in Tinseltown ages ago but are only now basking in the limelight. Yet, no matter the journey, success holds a unique meaning for each of them with a weight of its own, and for Colman Domingo, it is something he happily shoulders.
While fame comes with its fair share of highs and hurdles, Domingo embraces it all—the good, the bad, and everything in between.

In a recent conversation with AnOther, Sing Sing actor Colman Domingo opened up about his rise in Hollywood as a leading man. Basking in the golden glow of fame, he is fully aware stardom, like a blockbuster run, comes with an unknown expiration date. Yet, he walks this journey with certainty, knowing he was built for this. While he hopes the limelight will allow him to dance to its ever-shifting tides, for now, he is savoring every radiant moment of Hollywood’s “attention.”
Domingo is not tangled up in any existential knots over fame and success. In fact, he revels in the attention that arrived fashionably late. Sure, the inevitable awkward shuffle comes with trading privacy for the public gaze, the constant recalibration of personal space under the blinding lights. But even with that, he drinks it in because this was not luck. It was not a gift wrapped in a pretty bow. Every inch of his success was earned step by step, grind by grind, with nothing, but sheer determination illuminating his path.
Speaking of his acting method and turning the spotlight to Sing Sing, the actor revealed his favorite part of the entire process.
What is Colman Domingo’s favorite part of acting?
Colman Domingo has had three decades of acting career, but he dubs himself someone who just recently tasted fame. While lately he has rounded out the most anticipating discussions of Tinseltown, in his conversation with AnOther, he shed light on his most cherished part of the creative process. Acknowledging how Sing Sing was shot in 19 days when most flicks generally abide by the 30-160 days filming window, Domingo revealed he “brought more” of himself into it since he also had to shoot The Color Purple and Rustin in between.

Turns out, the “research” is his favorite part of it all. “I wouldn’t say I over-prepare,” Domingo clarifies before adding that by the time he lands on the set, he is usually stacked up with four months of research that no one else would be aware of. Domingo, who wanted to be a photojournalist before an actor, thus builds every character from a perspective that asks questions, so that reality is not compromised even in fiction.
