Let’s keep the cinematic brilliance and storytelling of Oppenheimer aside for a while. Looking at two of the cast members, Cillian Murphy and Robert Downey Jr., you will find two new exquisite performances. The antagonist role of Downey towards the end sends chills down the spine. His rage, his enmity against Robert J. Oppenheimer through the character of Lewis Strauss, was utterly brilliant. And facing a similar star-struck incident was Murphy, who recently talked about acting alongside the famed Iron Man actor.

Christopher Nolan’s story of the father of the atomic bomb brought these two gems together. And this is how Murphy describes working alongside the most loved superheroes of all time.

In an interview with GQ, Murphy got candid about his experience working alongside the Iron Man actor. Being the first time working with Downey, Murphy talked about how acting with his co-star was extraordinary. While talking about his approach to the script, he added how he was the most available and engaged actor to be present with. And it is no surprise what a treat working with the executive producer of the Netflix series Sweet Tooth is.

This Avenger has not really ventured into making other films except his appearance in Dolittle after the Avengers: Endgame. He also mentioned how he doubted his suitability for Oppenheimer. But that does not mean he has very little to do with the industry. And quoted as being the most “unpredictably brilliant actor I’ve ever worked with” by Murphy, Downey has much more to add to his cap.

As we heard praises of the actor on set, Murphy also indulged in how the script was approached while acting.

Their theatrical approach to the script

It is not a surprise that the three hours plus run time of Oppenheimer, that too intricately weaved by Nolan, came with a light script. But this wasn’t the first time Murphy approached a densely packed script. Being a theater actor, he did know his way around handling such scripts. He lets on that he read the script beforehand, but of course, there is quite a lot of difference between acting on a multi-million dollar set and at a theater.

Also, many of the scenes that we see between the two veteran actors of this newer generation have been improv. Given these revelations, it seems like the two actors gelled really well on screen and on set.
