Cillian Murphy Bags BAFTA Thus Maintaining the ‘Oppenheimer’ Winning Streak Till the Oscars
Cillian Murphy has done it again! Ever since award season kicked off, Oppenheimer, its cast, and its director have been the forerunners for almost every category and every award show ceremony. Now, a little more than a month since the actor’s Golden Globes victory, the 47-year-old has ended up bagging a BAFTA award for his portrayal of J. Robert Oppenheimer.

At tonight’s BAFTA awards show at London’s Royal Festival Hall, Murphy once again ended up beating out Bradley Cooper, Barry Keoghan, and even Leonardo Dicaprio in the Best Actor category. This epic win came after the actor already won a Golden Globe and an AACTA award a short while ago. With 13 nominations for the night and 3 bagged awards so far, fans might just see Oppenheimer dominate the awards show all over again.
That is exactly what ended up happening. Apart from just Murphy bagging an award for Oppenheimer, the film ended up with 3 more wins. With Christopher Nolan winning his first-ever BAFTA and Robert Downey Jr. following suit with his Best Supporting Actor victory, there is no doubt that the film will reign supreme at the highly anticipated Oscar Awards in March.
After all, once the nominations came out, it looked as though the Nolan film had left Greta Gerwig’s Barbie in the dust once again.
Will Oppenheimer dominate the Oscars?
Just last month, the world finally got the Academy Award nominations for 2024. While everyone wanted to see who would win the Barbenheimer debate at the awards show, the debate ended once the nominees were announced. Cillian Murphy’s Oppenheimer came out as the clear winner after it bagged 13 nominations. However, Margot Robbie’s film did not do badly as well.

The Mattel film received 8 nominations for the awards ceremony. However, the shock came when neither Robbie nor Gerwig ended up being nominated for their hard work. Instead, Ryan Gosling managed to be recognized for his work and shone the spotlight on his co-star and the director. With the movie falling short of nominations, fans will probably see Oppenheimer take the lead once and for all. However, with almost one month to go, there is no saying what could end up happening.
