Christopher Nolan Bags His First BAFTA Marking an End to His Long Losts
Over the years, Christopher Nolan has proved to be one of the world’s most influential directors. From his films like Interstellar to Dunkirk and even Oppenheimer, he has continuously dazzled viewers with his insane talents. Now, shortly after the 53-year-old bagged a Golden Globe for Best Director for his project with Cillian Murphy, he has done it once again.

At the BAFTA awards in London tonight, the director emerged as a star during the Best Director segment of the ceremony. With Oppenheimer put up for not one, but 13 different awards for the night, his big win did not come as a surprise. Nolan ended up beating out Andrew Haigh, Bradley Cooper, and Alexander Payne for the award of Best Director. His victory comes after he won 6 different directorial awards for the same film.
After 8 BAFTA nominations in his career, Nolan has finally accomplished something he had been trying to do for years. While it was sure to be a big moment for him as well as the Oppenheimer cast, he was not the only one to bag an award that night. Just before the Best Director award was given out, another cast member had been recognized for his rather intense role in the film.
Ahead of Cillian Murphy’s Best Actor win, Robert Downey Jr. took the stage to accept an award of his own with a rather hilarious speech.
Robert Downey Jr.’s BAFTA acceptance speech
At the BAFTA awards, Robert Downey Jr. ended up bagging the award for Best Supporting Actor in Oppenheimer. It was surely a special moment for the former Marvel star and he captured the stage in complete Downey fashion. The actor began his speech by talking about how far he had come in his career before thanking people. He thanked, “Chris, Emma, Cillian, the cast and crew, Universal, WME, and honestly just British influence.”

The 58-year-old went on to add that it had been an “exceptional year” for him. After all, he had also won the Critic’s Choice Award for the same category just a short while ago. With Oppenheimer taking the lead at another award show, there is a possibility that fans could see it do the same at the Oscar Awards the next month.
