Speaking from the stage at the Hippodrome Theatre in Baltimore, part of his 68-minute live Netflix comedy special, Rock said “Everybody who says words hurt has never been punched in the face“. Rock playfully suggested that Smith’s ire might be a bit misplaced.
Wrapping up the show, he addressed the potential question on viewers’ minds about why he did not retaliate during the Oscars incident. The comedian said, “Because I’ve got parents! That’s why. Because I was raised“. While the involved parties of the controversy appear to have moved past it, the repercussions have cast a shadow over Chris Rock’s chances of winning the Golden Globes this year.
