“Certain people have locks” – Colman Domingo Reveals Unfeigned Feelings About Creating Oscars History With Jeffrey Wright
Creating a film that captivates fan attention may not be too hard. However, making a movie that creates film history is a whole different thing. For Hollywood’s Colman Domingo, 2023 was a knock-out year. With his portrayal of Bayard Rustin in Rustin, the actor and his co-star, Jeffrey Wright, have made Oscar history this year with both being nominated for Best Actor for different films.
The awards ceremony might be a big moment for both the stars. However, not everyone seems to be positive about them both being nominated. Now, Domingo has shared his thoughts on the whole thing.

Ahead of the Academy Awards, Colman Domingo shared his thoughts on making Oscar history with his Rustin co-star, Jeffrey Wright. In a conversation with the Variety Awards Circuit podcast, the 54-year-old actor revealed his candid thoughts on the world pitting the stars against each other. He said, “That’s interesting to me, that certain people have locks” and then they “swap” out the actors for each other.
Domingo continued by adding that he does not see what their performances have to do with each other. However, that was not how the world seemed to see things. He also added that he thought it was “racist” to try to compare two completely different performances just because the actors behind the roles shared a skin tone. Meanwhile, the interviewer and the actor agreed that Bradley Cooper’s Maestro would be a better contender.
Although Cooper may have beat out Leonardo DiCaprio at the Oscar nominations this year, it looks like there could be a clear winner based on how award season has turned out so far.
Who could win Best Actor at the 2024 Oscars?
Since last year, Cillian Murphy and his film, Oppenheimer, have been the frontrunners of every awards ceremony. The world had expected the Christopher Nolan film to battle it out with Greta Gerwig’s Barbie. However, that plan seemed to fall short when the Oscar nominations were announced. Now, with the Academy Awards around the corner, it looks like the 47-year-old could beat out both Bradley Cooper’s Maestro and Colman Domingo’s Rustin performances.

Fans would love to see Domingo become the first-ever Afro-Latino actor to bag an Oscar Award. However, they might have to wait a little longer before that day comes. After all, this time, it seems as though Murphy has it in the bag, but the world could be proved wrong.
