Blake Lively and a Personal Collection Is the Reason Behind the Iconic Ping-Pong Photos From ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’, Reveals Ryan Reynolds

Deadpool and Wolverine are often considered archenemies in the comics. Well, except for the occasional instances when the two decide to put their rivalry aside and work together. In real life, however, the actors responsible for bringing these two popular X-Men characters to life are best pals who play ping-pong together. A month ahead of the movie's release, some new set photos from Deadpool & Wolverine have taken over the Internet, in which both Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman are seen playing the indoor game in their superhero costumes, along with Shawn Levy.

Not many would know, however, that without Blake Lively, these iconic pictures would not have seen the light of day.

Ryan Reynolds recently sat for an interview with Vanity Fair, discussing all things Deadpool & Wolverine. Alongside the interview came some previously unseen behind-the-scenes pictures of the leads and the director, Shawn Levy.  In the interview, Reynolds revealed that it was Blake Lively who sent the ping-pong table on the sets. Apparently, he and Lively have a photographic collection of actors playing ping-pong on sets, including Paul Newman and Robert Redford, Ronald Reagan and Jane Wyman, and others.

Inspired by this collection, Blake Lively sent a ping-pong table to Pinewood Studios, where Deadpool & Wolverine was being filmed. But this was not the only cool thing the cast pulled. Apparently, Hugh Jackman had also built a Murphy bed that, when pulled down, displays a picture of Reynolds lounging in a Burt Reynolds' 1972 Cosmopolitan style. While Lively’s ping-pong table certainly led to a heap of good memories, fans speculate whether the Gossip Girl alumna contributed more than that to the upcoming 2024 film.

Deadpool & Wolverine released a teaser on June 8, which featured a blink-and-you-miss-it appearance of what appeared to be Lady Deadpool. This glimpse comes right after the Merc with a Mouth says, “I’m about to lose everything that I’ve ever cared about”. Ever since the tease, fans have not stopped imagining how cool it would be to have Blake Lively playing Lady Deadpool, given that she is already married to Deadpool himself, Ryan Reynolds.

There was also a section of fans who believed that it would not be Lively, but her best friend Taylor Swift playing Lady Deadpool. While Swift has also been one of the most sought-after castings in the MCU, especially among fans in recent times, there is only so much you can tell from a pair of legs walking for a second. Nonetheless, Lively has surely instilled some iconicity into Deadpool & Wolverine, whether or not she makes it to the big screen.
