Meghan Markle and Prince Harry were highlighted as the upcoming entrepreneurs in tinsel town. While one belonged to Royalty and spent all of his life in front of the camera, the other was an emerging actress that left the States to join a Prince across the pond. And as they left the castle through what has come to be known as Megxit, their money-making potential did not go unnoticed. Neither by Netflix nor by Spotify. However, time changes a lot.

Ever since the Megxit, the Sussexes, as many described, were on a roll. And that has proven to be quite on point because, akin to how every roll has its end, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s multi-million dollar deals are meeting theirs. And while the Sussexes’ spokesperson described it as “mutual,” Bill Simmons’ statements prove quite the contrary.

The deal of the hour, that was, Spotify’s $20 million with the Sussexes met its end recently. The result of this exorbitant deal was Meghan Markle’s podcast Archetypes with Meghan, which boasted high-profile guests such as Serena Williams, Mariah Carey, Mindy Kaling, Paris Hilton, and more. Except that the Duchess of Sussex was not always the one interviewing them. This, along with the fact that the streaming mogul is losing money, culminated in Spotify’s International sports content, Bill Simmons, saying “The f***ing grifters” should have been their podcast’s name on The Bill Simmons Podcast.

What Bill Simmons thinks should be named “The f***ing grifters,” was described as a “labor of love,” by Meghan Markle. Ironically, it seems there was not much labor put into it all because, since the deal in 2020, Markle has only released twelve episodes.

While the Sussexes have per usual stolen the spotlight owing to their downfall with Spotify, there is more to blame than just their lack of attention towards the podcast and the dearth of episodes.

What actually led to the Sussex and Spotify breakup?

Much like how the Sussexes have been on a rampage to climb the ladder further up, if that is even possible, Spotify is trying to do the same. However, its approach is entirely different. While Meghan Markle and Prince Harry add more multi-million deals to their names, Spotify is cutting them out. The falloff with the Sussexes is a by-product of it. The streamer had reportedly spent more than $400 Million signing big-name podcasts.

Much like Archetypes many if not all have proven to be in vain. Therefore, it is not just Meghan Markle and Prince Harry that have led to the deal being called off, it is also the fact that they couldn’t bring back enough in profits for Spotify’s $2o Million investment. Amidst the upcoming complaints of the lack of episodes and Markle’s absence from the interviewing chair, it is interesting how the couple received plenty of award nominations for the podcast.
