The British actress is even engaged to her fiancé, Jake Bongiovi. While waiting for Stranger Things filming to restart, the young actress’ fans are celebrating her recent book. Nineteen Steps. Currently, the Hollywood star is touring to promote her book and gracing fans’ copies with her signature.

While the publication of Nineteen Steps has exposed the actress’ yet another creative side, it also brought her backlash. After the announcement of the recent tour, a fan pointed out a surprising detail about the novel that shocked a lot of fans.

The Enola Holmes actress has achieved tremendous success in her professional life with Florence by Mills. To add to her success, she also published her debut novel, Nineteen Steps. Recently, the young star has been excitedly promoting the tale of a woman living in London during WW2. An American airman, stationed near the woman’s home, changed her life. However, while promoting this book, it seemed some comments by a fan would change Brown’s life. A tweet by a writer named Tony Kent ignited the talks about Nineteen Steps having a ghostwriter.

Apparently, before her event in London, Waterstones posted a picture of the stakes of the novel indicating the book-signing event. To this tweet, Kent replied and pointed out that the latest novel by Brown featured the works of writer Kathleen McGurl. His comments brought in a lot of backlash for Brown. Kent wrote, “Beyond bizarre,” and further added, “Come to our shop, meet a famous girl from the TV, buy a book she didn’t write & she’ll sign it for you.

The cover of the book has the Stranger Things actress’ name with Kathleen McGurl’s name back behind the covers. As soon as Kent spoke about the book having a ghostwriter, fans immediately started to express their disappointment. A handful of fans were shocked as they said it was unbelievable. Interestingly, there were a handful of fans who supported Brown as well. But the true question remained: Did Kathleen McGurl really work on the book or is it just a stunt?

Fortunately, before the launch of Nineteen Steps, McGurl talked about her association with the Damsel actress in her blog post. She mentioned how she pulled off the entire project. The author mentioned the Godzilla actress had sent her all the materials and research she and her family had done. After going through the material, and continuously receiving more from Brown, McGurl wrote the first draft.

She confessed the book went through several draft changes before seeing the light of the day and also had several conversations with Brown. However, if or not Waterstone’s allegations are correct are yet to be proven as they deleted the original post from their handle. Days before the launch, when the English actress announced the dates of her book tour, she was so excited about it. And with such backlash, this might have spoiled the same.
