Any bride would want to look her best on her wedding day. And the Duchess of Sussex was no exception. So, to commemorate the most significant day of her life, she entrusted the job of designing her wedding gown to British designer Clare Waight Keller. This union produced not only the gorgeous Givenchy apparel but also a friendship that endures to this day. In a recent interview, Keller shared what it was like to prepare Meghan Markle for her wedding day.
The designer spoke on a panel at the 2023 Bazaar at Work Summit, adding it was a privilege to be a part of Markle’s most important day. Further, it was just the two of them throughout the entire process, and it became more of a “very personal girlfriend relationship.” Given the beautiful five-meter-long veil adorned with floral needlework from all 53 Commonwealth countries, this was indeed a collective effort.
The two ladies do enjoy a tremendous camaraderie, which began with the designer making the most significant apparel for the Royal. However, developing anything for such a large occasion presents its own set of obstacles.

Marriages with a guest list of 70 to 200 individuals are considered regular. However, the pressure gets amplified when it is aired for billions. This is exactly how British designer Clare Waight Keller felt when she was designing Meghan Markle’s wedding gown for her nuptials with Prince Harry. During the fourth episode of Harry and Meghan in 2022, she opened up about the obstacles and “pressure” of designing the gown.
The designer had stressed that the gown had to be faultless because it would be witnessed by “billions of people.” Notably, Meghan Markle walked down the aisle in a Givenchy gown designed by Waight Keller. The Duchess acknowledged having a “very clear vision” after the wedding and complimented Keller for bringing her thoughts to life. This further reinforced the former actress’s extraordinary connection with the British designer.
