When Matthew Perry and Julia Roberts’ characters crossed paths on Friends, no viewer was oblivious to the obvious chemistry between Chandler and his new love interest. Although short-lived due to its disastrous end, the goofy character’s romance with his childhood schoolmate stood out for audiences simply because of the Pretty Woman actress’ sheer star power and commanding presence. Well, much like their on-screen romance, the two are believed to have dated shortly in real life, too. 

Years after separating, however, their amicable affiliation went downhill. Something Matthew Perry did had apparently angered the Notting Hill actress.

Why was Julia Roberts disappointed with her Friends co-star?

About a year ago, Matthew Perry released his memoir, Friends, Lovers, and The Big Terrible Thing, that detailed the many happenings in his eventful life. In it, he has also unveiled a three-month-long fling he had with Julia Roberts after they co-starred on Friends. Well, this fact did not sit well with the latter star. According to a source who spoke to Closer Magazine via The Mirror, she was “embarrassed” by how Perry had aired their dirty laundry in public. 

Since the 56-year-old was not the kind to “kiss and tell”, she was disappointed that the 17 Again actor had taken the liberty to reveal the details of their old romance. Not only had he unveiled their entanglement, but also the reason why he was the one to call quits on it. Judging by the insider’s comments, Roberts may have interpreted these revelations as a cringe-worthy attempt to “fill his book” with glamorous soundbites.

One year on from that fiasco, the Erin Brockovich actress seems to have moved on from it all now.

After the saddening demise of the Friends star last month, Roberts spoke of her memories of him yesterday. Finally breaking her silence on it all, she fondly spoke of the “heart-breaking” feeling of having lost him. It also served as a reminder to her to cherish “what we have” before it is gone. Especially since the Fools Rush In actor had been too “young” for such a thing to happen, according to her. 

Well, one thing that is surely the most gutting for his fans is how he had never settled down with any of his past love interests before passing away. Particularly because he had once expressed his wish to do so and become a parent too. After his passing, the past animosity between them probably feels like water under the bridge for Roberts.
