Before Jennifer Aniston, ‘Friends’ Makers Chose This Actress for Rachel’s Part
In Friends, the fashion-forward and charming Rachel Green was brought to life by Jennifer Aniston. In 2012, Friends showrunner Marta Kauffman revealed to Vanity Fair that they had offered Rachel Green’s role to Courteney Cox. According to her, Cox had “something” that made her seem “adorable” which is why they wanted her. However, she turned down that role because she wanted to play the beloved chef and Rachel’s best friend, Monica Geller.
To imagine Courteney Cox as Rachel may seem almost an impossible task today. Well, if she had actually accepted the role, it would have completely changed the trajectory of the show. Especially since her personality was the perfect fit for Monica’s. Moreover, Rachel’s part was not the only one that could have had a different face.
Apparently, another actor was also eyeing David Schwimmer’s character. So, Ross could have had this face instead!

In an old interview, Jennifer Aniston’s childhood friend and Murder Mystery co-star revealed which character he would play if he were on Friends. The 57-year-old said that he could either be Ross’s hilarious monkey or Ross himself. Although he later clarified that he was only joking, it is undeniable that his dynamic with Jennifer Aniston would have made for a uniquely intriguing watch.
However, if that was the case, fans would have missed out on Jennifer Aniston and David Schwimmer’s chemistry that led to such iconic scenes. After all, for most people, Ross and Rachel are the ideal fictional representation of ‘couple goals.’ Additionally, Sandler’s relaxed aura might have not been a match for the neurotic mess that Ross is presented to be.
