Barry Keoghan is part of not one, but two of the biggest media franchises in Hollywood right now- the MCU and the DCU- and honestly, it is not surprising. His performance as the eerie Oliver in Saltburn left audiences with chills, and those ungodly scenes have definitely made him one of the most talked-about actors in town. But even with all the success he had in the past few years, there is still one thing on his Hollywood wish list that remains to be checked off- playing Spider-Man in the MCU.

Keoghan, recently, shared a fun story about his first crack at Spider-Man, along with how he ended up joining the cast of Marvel’s Eternals.

Every aspiring actor dreams of swinging from skyscrapers as a Marvel hero at least once, and Spider-Man is pretty much THE dream role. Keoghan was no exception. On Josh Horowitz’s Happy Sad Confused podcast, the actor reminisced about making a short film where he played Spider-Man about a decade ago. He spotted a Spider-Man costume in a pound shop and decided it was the perfect fit for his short film/ audition, which is still available on YouTube. However, Keoghan did not get a real audition for the role.

Keoghan also shared how, before he became a household name, he used to make short films and get creative with his audition tapes. For his Eternals audition, he sent Chloé Zhao a video where he filmed in a green space and made it look like the Amazon habitat. Nonetheless, even with all the roles he has landed, including his latest in Peaky Blinders, that Spider-Man dream is still very much alive in Keoghan’s heart.

Earlier this year, Barry Keoghan dropped another hint about his Spider-Man aspirations during an interview with his Bird co-star. 

In September, Variety asked Nykiya Adams if she had anything lined up after Bird or if she was just turning down offers She laughed and replied, “No, I’d love to do more movies.” This led Barry Keoghan, who was also present in the interview, to jokingly ask if Adams had mentioned that Marvel had reached out to her. When Variety pressed Adams further, she shared that she had a deep love for Spider-Man.

Adams expressed that she would love to be a part of the MCU, especially playing the "oldest beast"- referencing Spider-Man. The conversation then naturally moved to DCU and Keoghan’s potential return as the Joker- though, as always, he stayed tight-lipped on that. While James Gunn has dropped a few hints about Keoghan’s Joker, it is still up to fate whether the actor will ever get the chance to play his dream MCU role.
