Barry Keoghan Talks His Hopes and Plans in MCU, Amidst Latest ‘Eternals’ Rumors
This year has been celebratory for the Marvel Cinematic Universe after a few floppy laps around the box office. In 2024, Hugh Jackman and Robert Downey Jr. were brought back from the dead, giving life to more than just their characters as Deadpool & Wolverine carried Marvel’s box office woes on their adamantium-clad shoulders. The superhero chatter went wild with fan theories long before updates dropped, but Kevin Feige’s sly nod to Eternals had fans recently buzzing for Barry Keoghan’s MCU comeback.
Now one of Hollywood’s hottest stars, Keoghan is not shy about addressing the rumors and his future in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Barry Keoghan recently appeared in an interview with Josh Horowitz for the Happy Sad Confused podcast to look back at Eternals, and forward to its speculative return. Horowitz reflected on the lost band of superheroes since their Marvel entry years ago to ask Keoghan if he still hopes to play that Druig again. Keoghan recalled how joining forces with Chloé Zhao, who wrote the screenplay of Eternals (2021), and reading more inspired him to team up for the Eternals.
Keoghan remembers his role as something he did not portray before, describing Druig as someone with a reserved attitude and “wolf-mentality.” The actor recalled how Zhao made it all so “realistic,” playing Druig was one of the most memorable things ever. However, Keoghan may have intentionally steered clear of revealing his hopes for the MCU’s future, leaning on Eternals’ comeback speculations, despite praising the drastic steps the studio took in recent times.
While Keoghan played coy, Marvel boss Kevin Feige addressed the possibility of Eternals’ return long ago.

This year saw many MCU characters come back from the dead, and lately, the rumors surrounding a return for the Eternals are also keeping fans on their toes. Although Marvel Studios has yet to address the rumors, Kevin Feige conversed with Inverse in May, shedding light on the actual truth about Eternals 2. “There are no immediate plans for Eternals 2,” Feige told the outlet.

Feige, however, referenced the Captain America: Brave New World trailer, which shows brief shots of a battle over Tiamut Island, to tease the acknowledgment of the events of Eternals. Exploring the Eternals through Brave New World opens the door for their return, but it is still unclear whether they will shine in cameos across the other MCU films or reclaim the spotlight with their own story.
