Dynamite Comics announced in July a new Barbarella series set to launch ahead of the Sydney Sweeney remake. The publisher has now released a first look at the upcoming Barbarella relaunch, showcasing a striking new design for the character. Anna Morozova’s interior artwork, alongside four cover variants, reveals Barbarella in a bold pink snake-skin spacesuit with yellow ribbon accents, and flowing blonde hair.
Barbarella’s new look features side bangs, a gun in one hand, and a planet in the other, all while floating in space. The ensemble is completed with beige boots. This October, the iconic space adventurer returns in a fresh comic book series written by Blake Northcott and illustrated by Anna Morozova. Additionally, six full-color unlettered pages from Barbarella #1 have also been unveiled. For fans eager for Sweeney’s portrayal, this sneak peek offers a tantalizing preview of what is to come.
Regarding updates on the live-action reboot, the Barbarella remake is currently seeking new writers and a director, with Jane Goldman, Honey Ross, and Edgar Wright being considered for these roles.

In May, Deadline reported that Sony Studios is considering Jane Goldman and Honey Ross to co-write the Barbarella remake. They are currently negotiating to develop a new pitch for the reboot. Edgar Wright has also been in discussions to direct the film since November 2023. However, production is still in the early stages due to Sweeney’s busy schedule and Wright’s extensive preparation for The Running Man reboot, which stars Glen Powell.
Goldman has been instrumental in launching successful franchises, including the rebooted X-Men series with James McAvoy and Michael Fassbender, and Matthew Vaughn’s Kingsman: The Secret Service. While updates on the remake have been limited, the studio’s choice of Goldman and Ross as writers highlights their commitment to creating a blockbuster reboot featuring Hollywood’s most-wanted, Sydney Sweeney.
