Meghan Markle, despite her years in the Hollywood industry, has come to be known for an entirely different lane. It is understandable in her case because the entirely different lane was opening up about her time as a biracial woman in the royal family and Meghan Markle absolutely thrived in this area. However, long before she wreaked havoc in the royal family, for reasons good and bad, the actress was busy making a name in the Hollywood industry. And for all their differences, according to Markle’s statements, they have a lot in common.

The Oprah interview that roped in millions of viewers became as popular as it did because it was a rarity. The last time an ex-member of the royal institution sat down to give a “tell-all” interview was Princess Dianna with BBC in 1995. However, Markle had a bone to pick with another institution that is unpopularly popular, especially when the subject is ‘toxicity.’

Did Meghan Markle experience discrimination in the Hollywood industry?

Markle’s statements about the royal family are mostly a hit and a miss owing to the political nature of the discussion. However, Hollywood is a field with a different pitch. And the rules are also different. When asked about her take on both ‘#MeToo’ and ‘#OscarsSoWhite’ which provoked many, by Variety in 2022, the actress chose to speak on the nuances of discrimination, so much so that they didn’t “have a name for it at that time.”

The Sussex Royal smartly stated that “It forced a lot of women to live with this idea of staying silent, not being disruptive, not giving voice to the things that might create concern or discomfort.”

Her statement clearly indicates that her time in the industry was not all sunflowers and rainbows. Is this why Meghan Markle flat-out rejects any chance of her stepping back into her acting shoes?

Why did the Duchess of Sussex quit acting?

The catalyst that got audiences hooked on Meghan Markle, more than her being biracial, was the fact that she was a working woman. Markle, for a long time after dating Prince Harry, always looked booked and busy. However, Markle quit acting pretty soon after.

Managing a career as both a senior royal and an actor would be difficult. But the Duchess of Sussex continued to reject the idea of an acting comeback even after quitting as a senior royal. While one could assume that she wants to scale up as a producer, her statement about the toxicity engraved in the industry also hints at discrimination being the key factor behind her quitting acting.
