As one became the queen of entertainment through her acting, the other conquered the world with her catchy tunes. While Aniston earned a Golden Globe and Emmy through Friends, Swift has accumulated no less than 12 Grammys with the power of her music. 

Two years back, both ladies even contested for a prestigious honor awarded to exceptional individuals. Eventually, the results reflected a four-way tie between them and two others!

When it was time for People to announce who won the People of the Year title in 2019, they were faced with a dilemma. Taylor Swift and Jennifer Aniston were up against each other for the title. But it was not just them. According to the publication, Swift, Aniston, Michelle Obama, and Jennifer Lopez all deserved the honor. So they announced that the “all-female foursome” had all won the title. The ladies each got their own version of the People’s magazine cover as well!

Now, four years later, Taylor Swift has continued to impress the world with her ongoing Eras Tour, which has led to several nominations for her at the upcoming VMAs. Clearly, she has established herself as an unstoppable force in the music industry. But in 2019, her nomination for the award has a special reason behind it as the publication elaborated.

While explaining why Taylor Swift was chosen, People said that it was in 2019 when Swift actually “found her voice“. They also expanded on what the others had done to earn their deemed title. 

What contribution did the four make to win People of the Year?

According to People, through her acting in The Morning Show alongside Reese Witherspoon, Jennifer Aniston had given the “best performances of her career”. In Michelle Obama’s case, it was her best-selling memoir Becoming and her growing popularity as a female icon that became the reason. As for Jennifer Lopez, People attributed her win to her successfully co-produced film Hustlers and the fact that she bagged a “Super Bowl performance” that year! 

Meanwhile, Taylor Swift was chosen because she produced ‘Lover’, which became a bestselling record in “just one week.” As varied as their accomplishments were, the four women still have one thing in common: they are all the subject of many people’s inspiration and adoration to this day. No other foursome could better be icons to young women across the world and People seemed to have recognized the fact in 2019.
