The 90s sitcom, Friends, has given a lot of its fans comfort, love, and a family-like warmth. While it depicted the lives and struggles of six friends living close to each other, a cast member, Matthew Perry, was struggling in his real life. The actor portrayed a sarcastic character, Chandler Bing, who once was a smoker. But Perry had a lot more than just smoking going on. He once opened up about what he had to be through to tell his journey of addiction in his memoir.
On the 1st of November, 2022, the 17 Again actor published his memoir, Friends, Lovers, and the Big Terrible Thing. He wrote about his journey into addiction, and how he suffered through it. Additionally, the memoir also recorded his days on the show, Friends. During his exclusive interview with People, the 53-year-old actor opened up about what it took for him to finally tell the truth about this side of him.

Getting out of any addiction can bring out a lot of traumatic experiences. Therefore, when a person in recovery opens up about it, they need to be careful not to slip into it further. That is what the Fools Rush In star had to be careful about. During his interview, Perry revealed he needed to be in that safe space to talk about it and not slip into that darkness again. He also admitted he needed to be safely sober in order to write down his journey of alcoholism and addiction.
A story of one’s survival can save others. Therefore, The Ron Clark Story actor admitted he was sure his story would help others as well. But what exactly was his story that moved people after reading his memoir?

Published in 2022, Friends, Lovers, and the Big Terrible Thing widely received positive reviews. The actor has written all and raw experiences of his alcoholism and drug addiction, and how it almost had him killed. However, currently, he is in a better position and is trying to live a healthy life.
Because of his uncontrollable unhealthy habits, Perry suffered a great deal of physical diseases. And he has also written about his days as Chandler Bing, whom he accused Ryan Reynolds had stolen a personality from, on the fan-favorite sitcom, Friends. During that time as well, the actor was struggling with his addiction.
