Blending history and fantasy, Highlander is just the right movie for an actor like Henry Cavill to take center stage. For the beloved British actor who is well known for his similarly themed Netflix series: The Witcher, the part of Connor MacLeod was believed to be the perfect fit. Now that the movie is making steady strides towards beginning production, fans are intrigued as to when they will set eyes on the reboot. 

Last Week, Lionsgate studio that has undertaken the project allowed Highlander a $100 million budget. This further drove fans’ curiosity about the launch date of the film. Finally, Discussing Film’s X (previously Twitter) page announced earlier today that the makers are “aiming to release” it almost three years later. Apparently, viewers may have to wait till 2026 for the return of the sci-fi fantasy saga to hit theaters.

In Chad Stahelski’s upcoming Highlander, the spotlight will center on the journey of Connor MacLeod embodied by Cavill. Earlier portrayed as an immortal figure in the original flick, the character is believed to return for the reboot. So is the music by Queens that featured in the 1986 movie. Given Cavill’s extensive tenure brandishing swords as Geralt of Rivia in The Witcher, he is bound to do justice to the role. 

Although audiences are excited about it, the far-away release of the film comes as a daunting aspect. Fans relayed their mixed emotions about the same in the comments.

While the 1986 flick birthed numerous renditions, none have resonated with audiences quite like the original film that captured hearts and imaginations alike. Now, as Henry Cavill has taken up the main character’s role, fans’ hopes are reignited. After all, his skills with a sword are unmatched. Especially since he bid farewell to his DC Superman role and Netflix’s The Witcher, his fans cannot wait for his next fantasy role. 

Some users were surprised to learn how long they would have to wait for the reboot. One user asked its makers to “hurry up” with the production.

Meanwhile, there were those who renounced patience and declared their desired launch date.

It was clear from the chants of “I want it now” to jibes on whether the creators believe that fans are immortal that fans cannot wait for the release of the movie. Whether the incessant requests for an earlier release date will help their case remains unclear. What is clear however is that fans will have a plethora of Henry Cavill projects from Argylle to Warhammer 40k to entertain them during this period.
