Anya Taylor-Joy in 'Avatar' franchise? Sigourney Weaver Announces Her desire for A Blockbuster

The Avatar movies with their gentle blue giants and heart touching, exhilarating premises have made itself a home in the sci-fi genre of filmmaking, proving James Cameron’s range in its wake as well. While Anya Taylor-Joy and her brilliant performances in some of the most loved shows of the generation are terribly difficult to look past, they might be even easier to look at together with the aforementioned epic movie concatenation.

With the essential foundations laid out for the Avatar movies, it is natural for rumors and predictions to fly and with intervals this long, like the audiences sitting in anticipation, movie veterans like Sigourney Weaver seem to be handing out their pieces of mind:  what the new driving plots may be, who the new characters may  be and most importantly who these new characters may be played by.

In a recent interview with GamesRadar+, Sigouney Weaver expresses her admiration for Anya-Taylor Joy in connection with her potential as an excellent sci-fi prima donna, in her opinion. Co-starring with Joy in the upcoming movie The Gorge, Weaver, best known for her role as Ellen Ripley in the Alien movies,  another Sci-fi landmark, has assessed Joy to be well fitting for a role as a “strong Na’vi woman. Being a veteran in the field, Weaver must have felt no qualms about giving the Queen's Gambit star a pointer or two about what a proper sci-fi heroine should present as, but expressed how “Anya Taylor-Joy needs no tips from me to play anything”.

Weaver, eulogizing Joy's prowess at acting, talks about how the actress seems so natural while jumping into her character, Darsa’s shoes and playing her, and also effortlessly enjoying diving into her part. Having played the drama character Beth Harmon in the Queen's Gambit, characters in horror-thrillers The Witch and Morgan, Joy is now speedily moving towards expanding her realm of genius to accommodate science fiction as well, as will be seen in The Gorge, which is set to be released on the February 14th, 2025.

Anna Taylor Joy’s character, black haired and beautiful Darsa, presents herself as thick-accented Lithuanian sniper who does not seem to be scared to make contact with the guard opposite to her when strictly advised not to, the textbook of a determined and deviant female lead who launches to motion a heart-racing and simultaneously stopping, romance.

While The Gorge is all set to be released, the Avatar franchise remains at a standstill, and rightfully so, speaking regards to its epic investiture, noted to have surpassed several other tentatively-claimed blockbusters in its aftermath, witness to which is its legacy that seems to last a lifetime between the release of its movies, having garnered the fan-following of its size. Whilst all of this goes down, the audience waits to see if Weaver's idea of  Joy’s potential casting in the film-giant will be worth-while, or even better, legendary.
