“And I decided not to…” – Back When Arnold Schwarzenegger Revealed Why He Did This Hit $216,000,000 Film For Free
Shawn Levy, the Deadpool director, once expressed his opinions about a serious actor featuring in a comedy movie. He said it would be easier for the director to make a comedy actor serious. But it becomes extremely hard to make a serious actor a comic. However, Arnold Schwarzenegger, in this 1988 film, appeared as a natural comic actor despite having a reputation as a serious action hero. Interestingly, the Austrian actor did the film for free.
As impossible as it sounds, the 75-year-old actor once starred in a comedy movie named Twins. His co-star was Danny DeVito, and the director of the film was none other than Ivan Reitman. The FUBAR star once revealed he, along with DeVito and Reitman, did the film for free. Schwarzenegger once revealed the true reason behind this big decision.
Because the Commando actor had already established himself as an action hero, it was an enormous risk for the studio to put money on him. “Hollywood refuses to do a comedy with me. Because I’m the action star,” said the Austrian actor.

But DeVito, Schwarzenegger, and Reitman were determined to make the film. Therefore, when DeVito and Reitman decided not to take their salary for this movie, Schwarzenegger did the same. He revealed, “Danny DeVito decided, Ivan Reitman decided not to take a salary. And I decided not to take one.”
While none of these Hollywood moguls took salaries for their work, they indeed received a huge reward in return. Along with a lot of love, the movie earned $216.6 million at the Box Office. If it wasn’t for this late Hollywood star, we would never have seen Schwarzenegger in a comedy movie like this.

The Terminator actor, who was not even the first choice for the character, made a huge name in the industry as a great action hero. In Schwarzenegger’s action films, he tries to add a little comic relief. However, Twins was the first-ever comedy film that the former bodybuilder starred in. And it was because of Robin Williams that we could see Schwarzenegger’s this side as well. As the actor himself revealed, before they even had the idea of Twins, Schwarzenegger, Robin Williams, and Reitman were having dinner together.
During their dinner, Reitman and Williams told Schwarzenegger they had never seen this funny side of him. And they would love to see it on screen. However, not getting carried away by the emotions, Schwarzenegger asked Reitman to come up with a project.
