The United States of America received the Duke and the Duchess of Sussex, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle with open arms when they renounced their royal base in the infamous Megxit. Although the Prince was somewhat new to the place, the former American actress, Meghan Markle, was quite used to the Hollywood lifestyle of the States. Thus, if not the couple, Markle, at least had the idea of how liberal America could be. However, it seems like the couple has well breached the boundary and the Americans are not exactly happy about the same.

A royal commentator wrote for the Telegraph stating how a “brazen request” to use the Air Force One has landed the couple in another pool of controversy. Lee Cohee states that if the reports are genuinely true and the pair did request the extraordinary treatment, “the audacity is … disturbing”. He writes that such a step exemplifies how their respect does not align with the solemnity of the Queen. 

Stating from the White House’s point of view, he regarded the request by Prince Harry and Meghan Markle as “inappropriate and presumptuous”. The US government swiftly declined the idea, and that rightfully represents the people of the United States. Further speaking from a commoner’s aspect, no American taxpayer is obliged to serve the luxuries of the California royals, Coheen affirms.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle were self-promoting

The report further took into consideration the occasion at which the demand was made. The royal reporter states that the Queen’s funeral was a mourning period for a revered monarch. Thus, that was indeed a solemn occasion for everyone, but not for the self-exiled royals. Making a request for a “lift home” at times when the entire world was grieving demonstrated their intention. They wanted to establish themselves as the nobility, claimed the report.

They had the opportunity of self-promotion and they took it, believes the reporter. That is, if the entire fuss about the Air Force One happens to be true. He further weighed on Markle’s gift to Jill Biden to strengthen their ties with America’s apex. The attempt failed because Jill Biden reportedly declined an invitation to the Invictus Games. Markle’s efforts had thus clearly fallen short.
