Josh Horowitz had a conversation with the 51-year-old cinematographer to discuss Christopher Nolan’s recent blockbuster and more. During their conversation, Horowitz asked the artist if he could see any more creativity left in the superhero genre. Hoyte van Hoytema admitted the genre running dry. However, he also sounded optimistic about the future of the genre as well. Hoytema revealed someone might come up with a creative take on something and could blow new life into the whole thing.

Hoytema also believed creativity always came from an individual who had his own unique take on the available material. Therefore, he would not like to stay away from a genre just because it was running dry. The cinematographer also remembered the previous year when there were a lot of superhero films. Thus, it was his view that the ground might run dry from the business model perspective until the next visionary would come up with a unique perspective.
