Amidst the Anticipation for ‘Barbie’, Greta Gerwig May Write and Direct ‘Chronicles of Narnia’ for Netflix
While the excitement for Barbie builds up, Greta Gerwig is already eyeing another franchise. The Oscar-nominated director is known for her amazing capabilities. We have seen trailers of this through her work in Lady Bird, Little Women, and Barbie. But Hollywood is ready to exploit and explore her skills with some larger-than-life projects. While the pink plastic-centered flick will release in theaters, Netflix may lock the director up for an equally interesting franchise.
Classic franchise movies have proved to be timeless, and immune to changing technologies. If anything, progression allows fantasy movies to be shown in a new light with a new team, while keeping the same vibe. Considering how well the Barbie trailer looks, we can expect Greta Gerwig’s magic for the Narnia world soon.

Netflix is expanding by adding different genres and buying rights to movies, anime, and more. They are trying to enchant Greta Gerwig into making live adaptations of The Chronicles of Narnia. According to WhatsOnNetflix, she will not just direct but also write the movies, provided that they land a deal. Barbie itself was a big project, but Narnia will be a multi-fold deal if confirmed.
As per reports, Netflix has signed a deal with the CS Lewis company which owned rights to the Narnia Chronicles. This makes it the first time in history that all rights of production of the seven books have been acquired by a company. Through it, the OTT giant looks to explore the Narnia world and reintroduce it to a new generation.
So far we have seen The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe, Prince Caspian, and The Voyage of the Dawn Treader. But how could Gerwig add to it?

Even before its release, Barbie is roaring for its colorful word, magical sets, and Gerwig’s capability to bring the series alive. But Narnia is an even bigger franchise, considered on the scale of Lord of The Rings or Harry Potter. This will test her art of storytelling while bringing the fantasy characters to life.
While Barbie’s budget was $100 million, the potential Netflix franchise could shell out even more. Perhaps the release of the former movie on the 21st of July will be a deciding factor in Gerwig’s deal with Netflix. And if all works in Gerwig’s favor, perhaps Millie Bobby Brown can have a second go at the Narnia franchise, after missing out on it last time.
