James Bond is to Hollywood what Taylor Swift is to music – ubiquitous and commanding. The character with an action-filled history spanning more than sixty years with twenty-seven movies in between forever redefined the action genre. While traditional action movies relied on explosions, car chases, guns, and even planes, the Bond franchise dished these together with the added spice of spy thrill. The result was one of the highest-grossing franchises ever, with an over $7 billion haul. Now, as the franchise has its eyes set ahead, a slew of changes are to take effect.

Grossing a hefty $774 million worldwide, Daniel Craig hung up his boots as the latest iteration of 007. However, as fan discussions have already moved over to casting, the producers are yet to clean their slate.

Daniel Craig took over the reins of the 007 franchise from Pierce Brosnan as the studio attempted a 21st-century makeover for their famed agent. After fifteen years of his iteration and two since the last outing, Bond executives need to settle on a face for their character. Leading Eon Productions, responsible for the franchise’s movie productions, Barbara Brocolli, in talks with The Guardian, had developmental news to share. Speaking of the next iteration, she said that “there’s a big, big road ahead reinventing it for the next chapter and we haven’t even begun with that.”

It might be a few more months or years before fans see the next 007 movie. Incidentally, there was a pause of four years during the Daniel Craig handover as well. However, there is still no news of a potential lead. Although fan castings and rumors have settled on Henry Cavill, Tom Hardy and Aaron Taylor-Johnson are also among the top choices. Cavill could be a front-runner considering he was second-in-line to Craig in the 2006 auditions. Nevertheless, it still is a waiting game for now.

It is well known that MGM Studios and Eon Productions guard the Bond name with their lives. Thus, it should come with a due trust that Amazon’s recent take on a spinoff with 007: Road to a Million stays true to the franchise ethos. The show will have nine participants go around the world and tackle head-on challenges in true James Bond style for a prize pool of one million euros.

Helmed by Brian Cox, the spinoff aims to fill the recent void of Bond movies. Furthermore, it will also take on an approach in true 007 style with challenges dealing with intelligence, endurance, and the James Bond spirit. It will also stay true to the iconic settings featured in Bond movies, including locations such as Jamaica, Scotland, and Venice. It is due for release on November 10, 2023.
