Beyond his stint as the Merc-with-a-Mouth, the Canadian actor has championed great visions of business, sports, and philanthropy with Wrexham AFC, co-owned by him and Rob McElhenney. Furthermore, the tales of the duo’s struggles and turnover of the Welsh club have made their way to two seasons of the Welcome to Wrexham documentary. Taking to his Instagram stories, Ryan Reynolds asked his fans “When you’re done watching Wrexham then” tune into the recently released Netflix sports drama, The Beautiful Game.
The nod comes at a time when the second season of his show has touched critical highs, following in the footsteps of the first securing five Emmy Awards wins. A visible lover of soccer, Reynolds pitched the Netflix film that has found recent praise for its story of an English team preparing for the Homeless World Cup. Starring Bill Nighy as the team’s coach, the narrative follows the real-life tournament and stays packed with bringing attention to social causes and the power of hope.
In the meantime, his own upcoming hotly anticipated Marvel flick has garnered even more hype with new rumors.
