Amazon MGM Adds 3 Bigwigs to Henry Cavill’s ‘Voltron’ Project
Henry Cavill is no stranger to adapting popular franchises. In fact, the actor has been part of some of the biggest IPs to date, including The Witcher, the upcoming Highlander reboot, and Warhammer. Now, he is adding another classic to his list with Voltron, an adaptation of the Japanese anime Beast King Go-Lion and Armored Fleet Dairugger XV. But it looks like this project will be anything but short on star power.
Voltron has brought on three big names, adding an eclectic mix of an acclaimed actor, an action star, and even a pop star to the cast.

After years of trying to get a live-action Voltron movie into theaters, the project is finally starting to move forward at Amazon MGM under the direction of Rawson Marshall Thurber. Recently, three new actors have joined Henry Cavill in the project. According to a report from Deadline, Sterling K. Brown, Rita Ora, and John Kim are now on board with Voltron- a franchise that began in 1984, most likely playing the five pilots who control the lion mechs that can come together to form the giant Voltron.
Voltron, as an adaptation, has the benefit of tapping into deep nostalgia, not only for the 1980s animated series but also for Netflix’s Voltron: Legendary Defender, which built a whole new generation of fans after decades. With a diverse cast and generations of fans behind it, the Henry Cavill-led project has the potential to be a movie that will be hard to ignore. However, there are still some concerns among fans about whether it will be a successful adaptation. But there is a very good reason why they should not worry about it.
The fact that Henry Cavill is part of Voltron is, in itself, a guarantee that the movie will stay true to the source material. This can be backed up by the actor’s thoughts on live-action adaptations.
Fans can trust Henry Cavill to handle adaptations with care
One of the most common theories about why Henry Cavill left The Witcher is said to be creative differences. Cavill, a huge fan of both The Witcher novels and the video games, was really excited when he first got cast in the Netflix series. However, staying true to the source material was really important to him, and the creators were often accused of straying too far from it.

In a 2022 interview with Total Film Magazine, Cavill discussed his Enola Holmes sequel and emphasized how important it is for him to "make sure the tone of things is not lost in the potential excitement of franchises and universes”. He even told Josh Horowitz that with his Warhammer 40k project, he is "at the tiller" to ensure the adaptation stays "faithful." With Cavill's dedication to authenticity, it is safe to say that Voltron is in good hands and will not let down fans of the original anime.
