In a world filled with cinematic superheroes, there is one actor who has filled the spot of the fan favorite. Henry Cavill may have since given up his iconic red cape, but the star will not soon be forgotten. Although he has taken up other influential roles, none quite suit him like the DC superhero, Superman. Even though he quickly went on to steal hearts in the role, the lead-up to it was a tumultuous one.
From being turned away from various franchises to becoming the face of one, he was put through a rollercoaster ride of auditions before he made his mark. Now, as he embarks on a new journey with Matthew Vaughn on Argylle, the director shared his thoughts on Cavill’s journey as the red-caped superhero.

Years before Henry Cavill turned down a role in a Zack Snyder film, he had worked with Matthew Vaughn for the 2007 fantasy adventure film, Stardust. While their friendship may have begun back then, it remained intact over the years. So much so that the filmmaker shared his reaction to the 40-year-old’s big break. In an interview with Josh Horowitz, he revealed that he had “cheered when he got cast as Superman.”
He went on to say that the “poor guy had been down to number 2 on so many franchises.” However, that did not stunt his dedication or determination to land a role. Vaughn also said that he felt as though Henry Cavill was “beginning to doubt” that he would ever achieve his dreams. While that may have been the case back then, with a hit franchise and an iconic Netflix series, The Witcher, those doubts have since been pushed aside.
However, the compliments did not end there. Apart from just talking about the actor’s past, Matthew Vaughn also revealed what it was like working with the now-experienced star.

In the same interview, the Kick-Ass director decided to open up about his more recent experiences with Henry Cavill. Given that the two are working on their second film together, Argylle, there was evidently already an air of familiarity between them. 15 years after working on Stardust, Matthew Vaughn claimed that the Man of Steel actor was “blossoming.”
He even said that Cavill was “so good in the film” and claimed that he was “lovely to work with.” The director also admitted that he was a “big fan of Henry” and called the star “a gentleman.” While that might not come as a surprise to his fans, it resulted in a heartwarming moment that left the world in awe of Henry Cavill’s growth over the years.
