After Wanting to Destroy James Bond Tropes, Matthew Vaughn Finally Reveals What He Wants to Achieve With Henry Cavill and Cast
The world has been glued to any Henry Cavill update they can get since he left his iconic roles. From his upcoming projects to his love life, fans want to know what is going on. Ever since the actor announced a new spy thriller coming out, everyone immediately assumed that he could be the next James Bond. However, those dreams were soon crushed by Matthew Vaughn’s latest trailer.
Even though the film falls into the same genre as the magnificent James Bond films, the director came forward with plans to break the mold earlier this year. Now, he is spilling the beans on what he plans to achieve with such a star-studded cast.

While the world is already hooked on Henry Cavill’s upcoming film, Argylle, thanks to his bizarre hairstyle, the director of the film revealed his desire for the film’s cast. In an interview with Josh Horowitz, the 52-year-old opened up about his thought process behind the casting. He told the interviewer that he wanted to change the idea of “what spies are.” He also went on to say that he was trying to find the right balance to “create a new type of genre.”
With Henry Cavill and Sam Rockwell in the film, he claimed that the audience will see two different variations of what a spy can be. The director also went on to say that had anyone created the film, the cast would have consisted of bigwigs like Tom Cruz and Brad Pitt. Alas, that was not what he needed to portray the “contrast and reality of both worlds.”
This is just another layer that Vaughn has added to his already tall mountain of claims relating to the release of Argylle. The last time, he wanted to “destroy” the multi-million dollar Bond franchise and other spy movies with the same trope.

Even though Matthew Vaughn has created his own spy franchise with Kingsman, he recently revealed to Vanity Fair that he believes that spy cliches such as James Bond are “pretty dumb.” With his films giving away their spies’ identities left, right and center, the director decided it was time to revamp the portrayal in Argylle with Henry Cavill, Dua Lipa, Sam Rockwell, and the rest of the cast. Although he grew up loving the classic spy thrillers, he felt that it needed a change.
Even though Vaughn claimed to be “destroying” the usual tropes, fans will only understand what he meant once the Henry Cavill starrer, Argylle, is released. Thankfully, the wait will not be too long. The film is set to make its way to the big screen on 2 February 2024. With less than 4 months to go, and the director making such tall claims, fans cannot wait to see what the movie entails.
