Merely a week ago, it was revealed that Warner Bros had scrapped its plan to release James Gunn’s Coyote vs. Acme. It was axed as a tax write-off, and it was not the first time it had happened. However, now, Texas rep. Joaquin Castro has called out the studio on their behavior. According to reports from Hollywood Reporter, he has been extremely vocal on antitrust issues.
In fact, he called the “tactic of scrapping” films for tax breaks to be “predatory and anti-competitive.” He even compared it to “burning down a building for the insurance money.” His sentiments were echoed by many others as it came since such cancellations “stain” projects. Castro even went so far as to write a letter to the Justice Department over his concerns with Warner Bros.
There has been no update on what the Justice Department had to say regarding the studio’s film scrapping. However, Warner Bros ended up switching their plans shortly after.
Coyote vs. Acme to get new distributor after Warner Bros
After news of Warner Bros’ plans came out, chaos unfolded. It was revealed that they had done to same thing to two other nearly completed projects, Batgirl and Scoob! Holiday Haunt last year. The revelation was not taken well by filmmakers, who were missing out on blockbuster films due to this. However, shortly after sparking outrage, the studio decided to allow the director, Dave Green to sell his film to another distributor.

There may be some hope for James Gunn’s Coyote vs. Acme, fans of the Road Runner will have to wait before another update comes out. The cinematic universe is now locked in anticipation wondering what could happen. Hopefully, Green is able to find a new distributor and is able to get his completed film out. While the release date is unknown, the film was set to come out sometime in 2023.
