After Picking the Better Ending, ‘I Am Legend 2’ Is Set to Right the Wrongs of the First $150 Million Will Smith Film
I Am Legend is considered a benchmark for post-apocalyptic movies because of its innovative visual effects, strong lead performance by Will Smith, and exploration of isolation and morality. The film’s vivid world-building and lasting influence on the genre has solidified its status as a significant and influential work in the post-apocalyptic genre. But while the CGI monsters of the movie may have been legendary, there seemed to be a ‘bug’ in the system. A bug that fans are hoping does not find its way to I Am Legend 2.
As the sequel makes its way to the audience more than a decade later, fans are hoping that much like how the makers have smartly changed the foundation stones on what the sequel will be based on, they right another glaring wrong.

Will Smith’s 2007 movie, as evidenced by its box office collection, was nothing short of a cinematic phenomenon. However, many argued that Smith’s penchant for being the hero took away greatly from the movie. With I Am Legend 2, the makers are correcting this mistake by following the alternate ending. However, it is not just the plot that will be getting a glow-up. Taking notes from HBO’s The Last of Us, the movie is also rectifying the faults in its CGI.
The movie identified its antagonists as the Darkseekers. These zombies, specially equipped with sound effects, made many look out for boogie creatures in the night. However, the movie, despite its $150 Million budget, could not convince the youngest of its fans that Will Smith was living in a post-apocalyptic New York.
Not only will the evolved technology help it create a more convincing post-apocalyptic world, but if the creators are serious about The Last of Us inspiration, then we can expect an Oppenheimer-esque effect in I Am Legend 2.

Given the significant gap between the original and the sequel, Francis Lawrence and the other creators had to handpick what they took and what they left from the previous movie. And the makers have passed the test with flying colors, especially as they reveal how the upcoming Will Smith movie has found inspiration in The Last of Us. A series that has set a benchmark in the post-apocalyptic genre.
The Pedro Pascal starrer wins its audience not only through performances and plot but also through its ultra-realistic locations. Pascal’s series transports its audience to a post-apocalyptic world, and if Will Smith is looking to make a blockbuster comeback, this is exactly what he needs.
