The American horror genre is one that has stood against the tide of time. At a time when superhero movies have saturated the big screens, it is always the lure of thrill and biting off your nails that keeps fans excited down for the ride. Among the most recent prominent pioneers of this genre, the Scream franchise is certainly one that tops the list. Taking the trope of loving horror movies to death quite literally, the franchise holds a commendable footing. However, the next installment is under trouble as leads, including Mellisa Barreras and Jenna Ortega, may not return for their roles.

Inspired by the real-life serial killer, Danny Rolling aka Gainesville Ripper, the American horror thriller, has long enamored audiences with its thrill quotient. To add to its ‘charm’, Wednesday actress Jenna Ortega signed up for the franchise with 2022’s Scream 5. However, it looks like the end of the road is near for two core members of its ‘Core Four’ group. The Tara Carpenter actress may not return for Scream 7 due to supposed scheduling conflicts.

The news comes mere hours after Sam Carpenter actress, Melissa Barrera had herself booted over controversial statements on the Israel-Hamas war, which did not sit well with the franchise. Spyglass Media Group swiftly fired Barrera relaying a “zero tolerance” policy. Meanwhile, Scream had recently faced troubling issues when its recent outings landed in scathing review and a comfortable 76% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

The streaming giant quickly fast-tracked its productions mere moments after the SAG-AFTRA strikes had receded. Among the many shows in its catalog, Millie Bobby Brown‘s Stranger Things took the utmost priority. Soon after, a filming update came calling for Jenna Ortega’s Wednesday. The second season of the supernatural thriller will begin filming sometime in early April.

The last season had left the actress’ Wednesday Addams learning about her father and the Hyde while also being taken up as a blood sacrifice. The show was a monumental hit, with 341.2 million hours being clocked in by the first week. Finally, the upcoming season will explore more of where things were left off. Additionally, it will see Ortega take up a producer role, guaranteeing a well-chiseled season.
