“Matty.” The very name that instills a sense of deep sobbing and pain in every heart that was ever touched by the late Matthew Perry. In his own way as a sarcastic wisecracker, the Friends star has left a deep hollow with his sudden demise not only in the hearts of the millions of fans looking in him for solace but also among the six main cast members who stood sewn tightly as a pack. Days after he found himself to rest in Forest Lawn cemetery in Hollywood Hills, the cast of his breakthrough show has come forward with their statements of condolences and tributes.

The youngest among the six main actors, the Chandler Bing actor commands a place firmly in their hearts as evident in their messages.

In the ten seasons that Friends aired, David Schwimmer and Jennifer Aniston’s on-screen romance was a pivotal anchor point. The chemistry that had at times nearly spilled over into reality yet stayed short of requital still echoes in fans’ hearts. Coincidentally, the same was again on display when the Ross Geller and Rachel Green actors penned and published their separate emotional letters to Matthew Perry on Instagram within minutes of one another. On her part, The Morning Show actress attached a screenshot of her chat with the late actor along with the lines – “Oh boy this one has cut deep.”

The lengthy and poignant tribute ended with her addressing and asking Perry to “Rest little brother…”. Additionally, Aniston’s choice of attaching an emotional snippet from the show’s penultimate episode showcased her sense of grief. Meanwhile, on his end, David Schwimmer posted a throwback photo of theirs from an episode. The duo had during the length of the show shared significant screen time together. Hence, Schwimmer thanked the late actor for “ten incredible years of laughter and creativity.”

Matthew Perry’s tale through the years is not one meant for the faint of hearts. In sharp contrast to the sarcastic, witty, and gleeful on-screen character he played, his own life went down into a rabbit hole of troubles. Following a jet-ski accident in 1997, he found himself addicted to painkillers on top of a spiraling alcohol addiction. At one point in time, the actor was taking anywhere north of 55 pills a day. A condition that would risk his life uncontrollably.

In his memoir Friends, Lovers and the Big Terrible Thing, Perry admitted having nearly succumbed to a burst colon. The incident put him into a two-week-long coma and on the fringes of life. Soon after his recovery, he would again face a situation where his heart would stop beating for five whole minutes. Yet, once again, he would not give up and continued down a path to sobriety until his unfortunate demise on October 28, 2023.
