After Lukewarm Reception of ‘Argylle’, Henry Cavill Gets Creative While Promoting His New Spy Flick
When Matthew Vaughn hinted that Argylle may be the first to come from a connected cinematic universe, Henry Cavill fans were elated at the possibility of a franchise. However, the initial response it received dulled the thrill around the prospect of Cavill’s first-ever spy character becoming a recurring one. Fans expected Agent Argylle, who is both fictional and real within the espionage film, to become his breakthrough into the espionage genre.
That ship may have sailed, but the British actor does not seem to have given up his efforts to urge his fans to watch the movie, regardless.

Today, Cavill shared a click of himself reading the Argylle novel that his new movie centers around. The 40-year-old had his feet up on a coffee table, beaming and showing off a pair of yellow and ochre Argyle pattern socks. The accessory aligning with the book in his hands makes one wonder if the movie’s merch will be dropping soon! He urged audiences to watch the “slightly mad, but extremely fun” movie over “the weekend”.
Despite the heavy marketing The Witcher actor engaged in to boost the flick, it has failed to take off so far. Considering that Argylle’s rating failed to even hit 50% approval, memorabilia donned by its star-studded cast may just be the perfect alternative for its makers to make a profit at this point. At the same time, rumors suggest that the superstars Cavill, Dua Lipa, and John Cena’s screen time in Argylle were very short.
All this has not deterred the flick’s director, Matthew Vaughn, from singing praises of his leading man.
Matthew Vaughn is sufficiently happy with Cavill’s efforts
According to statements made by Vaughn recently, Cavill was the perfect man for Argylle in his mind because he could “do all the things” he expected from a “classic spy” role. In particular, he also mentioned the “wink” that Agent Argylle drops often. Not only for espionage movies, he also relayed his wish to make a DC Superman flick alongside the Man of Steel actor recently.

Considering the Kingsman trilogy and Kick-Ass director’s expertise in action and espionage thrillers, one can assume he has an eye for picking the right actors. So, the fact that Argylle is not turning into the success viewers and its crew hoped for, is in a way an exception to the rule. However, Vaughn’s adoration for the Enola Holmes actor hints that they may team up for another project soon.
