After Laying of Staff, Spotify to End Their $20 Million Deal With Prince Harry and Meghan Markle
Things have been a rollercoaster ride for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, ever since the Megxit. But the couple has tried their best to build a life for themselves and eventually founded Archewell. Meghan Markle created the award-winning Archetypes podcast with Spotify and Archewell Audio. The podcast had celebrities and historians discussing stereotypes women have been subjected to. Despite getting accused of not interviewing the guests herself, the Duchess was paid more than $18 million.
The podcast was a tremendous success for the couple that even bagged the first nomination in the People’s Choice Awards 2022. However, it was still a failure. So much so that Spotify laid off its workforce to make up for the losses incurred because of Markle’s podcast not generating the expected revenue. And now, the $20 million deal between the couple and Spotify has reached its course.

Archewell Audio signed a deal worth $20 million with Spotify to make podcasts to uplift and entertain audiences. However, this deal has officially come to an end. This happened as the couple delivered only one podcast under the deal. Both the companies delivered a joint statement on Thursday saying, “Spotify and Archewell Audio have mutually agreed to part ways and are proud of the series we made together,” as reported by Variety.
Sources close to the Sussexes have also shared that the couple wanted to move away from this exclusive Spotify deal. The couple is willing to explore other options for their audio projects. Losing such a valuable deal is nothing less than a disaster for the couple who are at a full-fledged legal war with the UK tabloids.

Prince Harry and Markle’s legal war
Prince Harry is dealing with three parallel legal cases at once while also becoming the first royal in a century to testify in the witness box. The Prince has accused publications, Daily Mirror, and People of hacking his phone to get exclusive information about him. He is also against Piers Morgan, who made insensitive statements about him and his estranged wife.
As of now, the Prince has accused MGN of ‘industrial-scale destruction of evidence.’ He continued on how he found tracking devices in one of his ex’s cars, leaving him with no privacy.
