After ‘Euphoria’s Saddening Delay Due to SAG AFTRA Strike, Another Zendaya Led Project Forced Into a Major Setback
Actors have been standing in solidarity with the striking writers for several days now. And this step taken by the SAG AFTRA union is increasingly affecting major projects in the industry. Only weeks back fans received the most disappointing news that their beloved show Euphoria starring Zendaya will not return to the screen soon. The production of season 3 got postponed due to the riot that has spread around this glamorous world. Now another project led by the same superstar is facing a setback because of the strike.
The current strike has claimed its first victim from the upcoming Venice Film Festival starting on August 30. And it is none other than the highly anticipated movie Challengers putting Zendaya in the leading role. Yahoo has reported that the film distributor has pulled out from the event because of the SAG AFTRA strike.
MGM wrote in their official statement that since the 26-year-old and other cast members could not attend any of the events, they are scrapping their plans for the grand opening of the film. “We look forward to celebrating the film when we can do so with our ensemble cast, director Luca Guadagnino, and the filmmaking team at a later date,” read the statement.

For the unversed, the strike does not allow actors to promote or work on any new projects until the union comes to an agreement with the production houses. This is why the star cast of Oppenheimer left their red carpet to support fellow artists before the release of the film. Similarly, the cast of the romantic sports drama will follow their lead while their film gets a new release date.

Zendaya was ready to take over theaters on September 15 with Challengers. The trailer convinced fans that this is going to be one of the most talked-about films of 2023. However, the wait might be longer than anyone expected, and it is all because of the strike. The movie will now be hitting theaters on April 26, 2024.
The distributors considered this to be the right decision because of the fan-following the leading actress has. Creators thought that if fans support the decision of the famed star, they will not watch this movie. So it would be better to push the release date ahead. Challengers follows the life of a former tennis prodigy turned coach named Tashi Duncan.
