It takes talent to recognize another talent, and Christopher Nolan certainly did not take risks when it came to Oppenheimer’s casting. Murphy revealed during an interview with Collider how he got a call. “I had no idea he was going to call me. He just called me out of the blue,” he said. The actor did not expect a sudden call of that kind but was happy to have received it.
Nolan would never call, and this sudden one turned out to be a sweet surprise when he offered the 47-year-old the lead role of the physicist. It made him happy, but that also meant bracing himself to work hard on the project. He has seen the director’s movie-making abilities and knew what an honor it was to be chosen for yet another movie.
