During the New York Comic Con, Matthew Vaughn shared his plan for a new addition to the 2021 prequel, The King’s Man, with Collider’s Maggie Lovitt. The director revealed how they are ready to bring a sequel that will pick from the post-credits scene of the prequel. For the unversed, it introduced David Kross as Adolf Hilter. So the upcoming project, The Traitor King, will focus on the rise of the dictator and how he was supported by the English aristocracy.
Vaughn continued the team has already completed the script and the story will enchant viewers. Further, he also shared that his initial plan for the 2021 prequel movie was to make it a television series like The Crown. But the English filmmaker was convinced to change it into a film for theatrical release. As for the upcoming movie, the creator has not decided yet whether the project will serve as a movie or television series.
The director further shared how he and his team are still debating over which project they should prioritize following the end of the WGA strike. Meanwhile, his upcoming film, Argylle, will differ highly from the usual spy film formula, something even the Kingman’s franchise had in it.

In a recent interview with Vanity Fair, Matthew Vaughn discussed the “pretty dumb” tropes that viewers have become customarily watching in the majority of spy movies. He said that real-life spies do not always remain decked up in dapper suits and have cool haircuts. Instead, they are people who stay away from the limelight and expect the least attention from others. “It’s like Roger Moore said about James Bond—what sort of spy walks into a room and everyone knows his name and what he likes to drink?” explained the creator.
Breaking the stereotype, his upcoming movie Argylle will deviate from these James Bond-esque tropes. This now pretty much also explains the reason behind Cavill’s much-hated hairstyle as seen in the trailer that forced fans to begin a meme fest. With this look, Cavill might end up breaking the conventional image of handsome spies and replacing it with something that feels more real and convincing.
