After Almost a Decade, Henry Cavill’s ’Argylle’ Plummets to the Lowest of the Actor’s Box Office Numbers
After months and months of hyping it up, Henry Cavill’s Argylle has become the Box Office’s latest disappointment. While the spy thriller starred many familiar faces and big names, it ended up making only $17 million at the box office on the film’s opening day. Although everyone had expected it to slowly make its way up the ladder, the movie’s second weekend has taken it to a brand new low.
It might not be the first time that the 40-year-old has had to face a failed project. However, the Matthew Vaughn film has wound up at the bottom of the actor’s long list.

Ever since last year, Henry Cavill has taken over the world with his promotions for Argylle. From sporting a bizarre hairstyle that confused fans to making appearances with his girlfriend, Natalie Viscuso for the movie, the actor did it all. However, it does not look like he will get to reap any rewards. After bringing in $17 million on its opening night, the film fell even lower at its 2-week mark and grossed only $6.6 million, according to reports from Screen Rant.
With a 62% drop in Argylle’s box office numbers, it looks like Cavill’s project is not the success everyone had expected. While it is not the lowest drop the actor has seen in his career, there is no doubt that he too had been disappointed by the underwhelming response. However, the James Bond candidate once had to face a rough second week at the box office, which might have prepared him for this moment.
The last time that the actor had seen such a low second weekend score was back when he was still playing the iconic DC superhero.

In 2016, Henry Cavill was still Superman and everything seemed to be right with the world. However, just two weeks after the actor’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice was released, it saw a major drop at the box office. While the Ben Affleck collaboration had initially brought in $81.5 million at its opening, its second-weekend numbers dropped down to $15 million.
However, by week 5, Cavill’s project ended up bringing in $855 million, after its worldwide theatrical release. While that might give fans some hope for the actor’s Argylle project, there does not seem to be too much hope at the moment as the film has not crossed $30 million yet. With a budget of $200 million to make the spy thriller, the film will need a minimum of $300 to break even on its costs.
