When Argylle opened in England last week, the reviews for the Henry Cavill starrer did not appear to be promising. His foray into espionage landed with a thud, despite its star power and A-list director. While it boasts high-octane action and a convoluted plot, it was simply not enough to impress viewers. Considering that the Brit’s home country gave it a thumbs down, audiences across the Pacific were skeptical of whether to give it a shot or not.

As it arrived in the USA today, it looks as though things are still not picking up on one front.

The low streak for Argylle continues

It seems like word of mouth has traveled across oceans because the opening day collection of Argylle in domestic markets today was a mere $6.5 million! The other time one of the 40-year-old’s projects received such unprecedentedly low approval upon opening was in 2006. His mostly unheard-of action romance, Tristan & Isolde opposite James Franco, similarly pulled in close to $6.5 million on its first day.

Even one of his earliest works, The Count of Monte Cristo, garnered over $11 million. Others, like The Man from U.N.C.L.E., made $13 million plus, while Immortals collected $32 million. Meanwhile, his biggest hits remain DC projects like Justice League, which raked in $93 million on day one. Furthermore, Man of Steel and Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice both crossed the $100 million mark on their first days.

As heartbreaking as Argylle’s performance may have been, it still beats Cavill’s least-performing flick by a large margin!

Not too long ago, Cavill headlined in an action thriller flick that roped in approximately $1 million in total! This shockingly low sum was awarded to the 2019 flick, Night Hunter, in which he played the lead role of a detective. What makes this flick’s unfortunate result even more baffling is that it carried not one, but many other relatively big names from Hollywood.

It also featured another Superman actor, Tyler Hoechlin, who headlined as the Last Son of Krypton in Superman and Lois. The Baywatch actress, Alexandra Daddario also spoke on her experience of being in the flick alongside these two Supermen. Besides The Witcher actor, Gandhi star, Ben Kingsley, veteran actor, Stanley Tucci, and Castle sensation, Nathan Fillion also appeared in it.
